St John Info

St John is the smallest of the 3 major US Virgin Islands located 90 miles east of Puerto Rico, 4 miles east of St Thomas and just 4 miles southwest of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.  St John is an unincorporate territory of the United States, and you do not need a passport if you are a U.S. Citizen to travel here.  The US Virgin Islands are sometimes referred to as 'America's Paradise". St John is only 20 square miles and is mostly covered by National Park. This leads to many wild, unspoiled beaches, undeveloped coastline, and numerous hiking trails through the lush tropical forests that cover the island.

There is no "hustle and bustle' on St John. This is the land of the laid back lifestyle and "island time". There is no airport, no fast food restaurants, no large box stores and not even a single street light.  You come to St John to relax and enjoy nature and the culture of the Virgin Islands.

St John is approximately 19.61 square miles and has a population around 4000 people.

There are two "towns" on St John. Cruz Bay is the main town and is where you enter St John by passenger ferry boat or car barge. There are numerous restaurants serving food of all kinds to include Caribbean fare, fine dining, seafood and typical "beach" bars. Coral Bay, is approximately a 35-40 minute drive to the other side of the island and is the "quieter" side of the island. There are only a handful of restaurants and a few boat charter outfits.  The beaches here tend to be for the more avid snorkler who is willing to forego the typical white sandy beaches for greater opportunities to see the incredible undersea wildlife that is available to discover.
